What to Expect

What to Expect: Your First Visit

Welcome to First Baptist Church! We are so excited you would like to join us for worship. Visiting a new church can be challenging and difficult so we would like to make your visit as welcoming as possible. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions. We look forward to meeting you and hearing your story.

What Time Is Worship On Sunday Morning?

Worship comes in many forms and styles. At FBC, we offer one worship service on Sunday morning.

Our worship service offers a blended style of worship and meets in the sanctuary at 10:45 am. The music in this service sometimes includes piano, organ, brass ensemble, handbells, and a chancel choir, as well as guitars or drums from time to time.

In addition to Sunday worship services, we offer a variety of Sunday Bible Study classes throughout the church building. These classes vary in age and focus.  Each Sunday we have greeters stationed at each of our entrances. These greeters will be happy to help you and your family members choose a class and then give you directions to the classroom where your class meets.

I Am A Visitor. Where Do I Park?

We are delighted you are visiting our church. There are three parking lots on the church property, a gravel lot on E. King Street, as well as street parking surrounding the church property.  Our North Lot is located off of East College Street.  In our North Lot you will find several parking spaces marked for our guests. Our Back Lot faces George Avenue, but the entrance is on E. King Street.

What Doors Do I Enter If I’m Visiting?

When you arrive at First Baptist Church, we have greeters stationed at each door waiting to assist our visitors and members during the Sunday Bible Study hour.

  • The front entrance on Russell Avenue will allow you to enter our sanctuary.

  • North Lot Entrance - If you have parked in the North Lot you may enter the doors under the covered breezeway. This entrance also offers an elevator for those who do not want to use stairs.

  • Back Lot Entrance - If you park in the back lot we have an entrance that is convenient for those with children. This entrance is distinguished with a large concrete sidewalk leading to the double doors.

Is There A Dress Code?

Please wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. No matter what you wear, we will accept you for who you are. On any given Sunday you will find people wearing anything from jeans and shorts to suits and dresses.

How Long Are Your Worship Services?

The worship service lasts for about one hour.

Where Do My Children Go During Worship?

Children are a big part of our faith community and we are glad you want them to experience FBC. We offer a nurturing atmosphere for children of all ages, from birth to 6th grade.

Infants to Preschool: We offer a place for children to learn and grow in their faith during the worship service. The children’s area is easily accessible by entering the back lot entrance.

1st - 5th Grades: We consider that worship is vital to the growing faith of our children.  Children who are in this age range are invited to attend worship with their parents. Also, children are invited to join our pastor during the Children’s Moment.

What Do You Believe?

As a community shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, we are called to worship God, share the Good News, foster spiritual growth and meet the needs of hurting people. All we do springs from our passion to be servants of God who joyfully give their time, abilities, and money to facilitate authentic service.

What If I Am Liberal/Conservative/Etc, Should I Come To FBC?

We avoid the use of labels to define churches and followers of Jesus. At First Baptist Church you will find people who fit every part of the spectrum from theologically liberal to moderate to conservative. We celebrate people from all different backgrounds, experiences, opinions, and beliefs, believing that all can come together to worship the God who created us and unites us. We hope you can find solidarity and comfort in knowing we all belong in the Kingdom of God.

How Do I Become A Member Of First Baptist Church?

FBC receives members in different ways including a profession of faith in Jesus as Savior and by requesting baptism, by transfer of membership from another Baptist church, by statement of a previous conversion experience and baptism, by watchcare (college students), or as an associate member. To find more information about membership, please speak to our church staff.
